I feel dizzy amongst these rocks
Rocks
more rocks
moss covered rocks
Wind breaths down my neck
Sinister cries
birds that are black
Black sand and ice
amongst the stony mounds
that surround me now
No echo no sound
Infinite ground
Rocks chatter they crack
they tap
tap
tap
The moss is soft
Lie on my back watching the black cloud cover the cold pillars of white
as the sun opens it’s eyes
shines upon my chilling spine.

Walking around the Glacier Lagoon ~ Iceland

Train Food

I had the crazy opportunity to ride 1st class on the Eurostar from Brussels to London (connecting from Amsterdam). At the time I was booking (which was relatively last minute) the ticket price for 1st class was less than 2nd and around the same as flying EasyJet (which would’ve been shit). Anyway, food and wine was included!!
A great experience indeed 🙂

Drinks by the bay

I enjoyed my final afternoon in Amsterdam at Hannekes Boom. A little bit hippi-esque, with tulips on each table, and colourfully upholstered antique chairs surrounding a wood-fire place. I highly recommend the burger filled with a thick (real) beef pattie, bacon, coleslaw, mango and lettuce. The apple juice and lemon iced tea was also mouth watering.

More Tea

I found this cafe along Prinsengracht which specialises exclusively in loose leaf teas (also offering a limited selection of daily baked cakes, of course). It’s like like waking into a much smaller, cuter, less mainstream version of tea 2, but it’s a cafe not a shop…the only similarity between the two is probably there’s a similar quantity of flavours to choose from lol. I got ‘amaretti’ which is a black tea with fruity stuff in it. The attractive hipster working there recommended a few and let me do the sniff test before taking the plunge (literally??!) and I also enjoyed a scrumptious brownie served on a piece of slate. Unique is all I can say…and that I wish there was one in Melbourne!

Soup 4 Lunch

It began raining as I set out on a journey to find a destination for lunch. Fortunately I very quickly stumbled upon a little pub on a street corner called Café Katoen. I ordered the soup of the day which was a very creamy pumpkin soup with many other delicious herby flavours. Served with bread of course! Ordered a cappuccino as well, which impressed me a lot.

I love tea.

After taking a break from tea and exploring coffee a little more on my travels, I rediscovered my love for this delicious beverage of uncountable variety in none other than the canal-ridden streets of Amsterdam.

I can’t remember the name of this cafe, but it was hidden in the basement of a terrace building, but with windows from the ceiling to the sidewalk letting in ample light. I tried the house iced-tea which was a black tea with fresh lemon and mint. And boy was it delicious.

Dad’s Birthday Dinner

Splashed out and took myself to a lovely vegetarian restaurant on Prinsengracht for dinner. Not sure if it would’ve been in dads taste but he wasn’t here lol didn’t realise veggies could be so filling!! Next stop was the highly praised Dutch Apple Pie at Winkel. Mum would’ve loved this, very moist, served with real cream 😉

From Amsterdam to Australia I wish you a happy birthday Dad, thinking of you and mum everywhere I go xx
